I have heard conflicting statements, and I would like to know the real story.
A few weeks ago I went into my regular barber shop and after I was sitting in one of the waiting chairs, I saw a No Guns sign on the inner wall.
I was of the understanding that for this sign to be enforceable it had to be in a prominant place that could be seen before you entered the establishment.
I didn't say anything to them because I wanted to remain as inconspicuous as possible.
Could someone of greater wisdome than I, set me straight?

Bill:

Conspicuous and "willfully" or "knowingly" are all part of it.

You know now, although you were (IANAL) under no obligation to leave the last time - hard to say if it was conspicuous or not....

I would talk to the management. If they don't want your business, let 'em tell you up front. Lots of barbers....

(I kid my wife - for a while she was changing hairdressers every month or so. I've been going to the same barber shop for more than 55 years. They've moved a few times, and the original staff are all deceased, but the last owner still part times there, and he started when I was just starting to drive.)

I'm wondering if they got one of those "you must post" packets, and just put that sign up someplace. If you can find out where the signs came from, the guys on OFCC might want to hear about it. Probably somebody in this group, too. (I'm sure somebody told me, but....)

Regards,

You didnt know....now you do.
Most likely the first time you could have claimed ignorance and got out of any hassle (assuming a decent LEO with common sense).
But now you know that the sign is there you need to obey it.
This is one of those things that is really getting me bent out of shape.
Papa Joes at Norton and Hall in Columbus IS posted, but the sign is faded pretty badly and they almost always have an outdoor sign that is propped up right over it. I scoured the door and windows before I went in and STILL missed it. After I'd ordered my pizza is when I looked around and saw this faded GB sign.
I promptely walked my gun to the car, went back in and explained to the guy that while he was posted, it was very hard to see and on the wrong day with the wrong LEO this could be a nightmare for a CHL holder carrying concealed, since he is technically posted in a 'conspicuous' manner (depending on whose interpreting the word 'conspicuous').

Im half tempted to print the guy out a sign and hang it on his door where it can be seen easily so no one ends up in a hassle because of it... since he presented no interest in taking it down.

Regards,

Ive wondered if anti's arent giving the signs out everywhere they can and working on peoples fear hoping that if they cause enough places to not allow CCW then we'll just stop carrying.
Now that I have my CHL I'll shop at Walmart exclusively (not fond of that thought, btw) if I have to to keep from giving my money to business owners who feel the need to strip me of my protection.

If you are going to print him a sign.. make sure it's the "more correct" version.

yeah....that'll do ;)

Ive tried explaining the facts to a few people about that sign. Obviously the BG's are going to look for them to keep from being shot. Its amazing just how much ignorance there is in this world. I know people who have been the VICTIM of violent crime who look at me like Im some extremist because I got my CHL and carry a 357. How many times does a person need to be robbed and/or raped before they get a clue ? How many times does a business have to be robbed and/or having their employees shot or killed before the lights come on ?

Its not even ignorance after a certain point (ie the first time a person is a victim), its just willful stupidity.

You can print one of these also. I like that other sign. I think they both put the point across...

+ they have the best prices on ammo (if you can find it) + there are other stores that don't display the "target rich envioronment or please conduct armed robbery here" signs. Kroger, Home depot, and others...

I have done all my pet shopping at the Petsmart store at Bridgewater Falls (Fairfield Township/Hamilton area) for years. On my last visit (early last week) I noticed a "no guns" sign. It cannot be seen from the exterior of the store as it is posted to the right of the second set of sliding doors at the entrance (after the air-lock with the carts). I suppose it qualifies as prominently displayed, though I believe it could easily have been missed (and may have been missed in the past by me). I have left a message on the Petsmart corporate website asking whether the sign at this store was posted per coporate policy or by local initiative. I explained that I like their store and have been a faithful customer since its grand opening but would be unable to continue shopping there while the sign remains in place. I am waiting for their reply.

Has anyone else noticed gun banning at Petsmart?

Funny how the JPFO sign looks surprisingly similar to the one we did back in 2004. http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/publicfiles/CPZ_Sign.pdf They even continued using my same innocent revolver instead of one of those evil semi-autos!

I wonder what the USHCI No: they have means.

Ours is OCAGV (Ohio Colition Against Gun Violence) - NoHB12 (No House Bill 12) - 020804 (The date CCW came to Ohio)

walmart works for me: how many other places can you get ammo, milk, beer, and DVDs in one store?... plus even when i feel lazy going in my "grunge" attire, i'm the best dressed person in the whole place!

That is the same whacky attitude that got you completely flamed and derided over at Ohioans For Concealed Carry, to the point that you no longer post over there.
