Totally true dude. Cancer has rates have risen about 60% overall since the 50's. Maybe you find comfort in your US census life expectancy numbers, but life expectancy in reality is going down, particularly in women.

Arron, your statement on GMO food is completely inaccurate. People starve because of the evil of man not because of non-GMO foods. There is plenty of food on earth to feed every human being with or without GMO, the people limiting the food to certain people groups are the problem.

Totally UNTRUE dude. Cancer incidence rates per 100,000 are darn tough to calculate and track. The people who work with it know that, the American Cancer Society has called foul at a LOT of studies. Advances in detection skew the rates all over the place. And the "learning curve" on what causes stuff like lung cancer was fairly long.

There is more food to feed more people TODAY due to advances in technique, and hybrids, and GMO technically is just another hybrid. They could have bred roundup resistance into soybeans for example, it would just have taken a LOT longer.

The wheat yield in kg/Ha in Mexico for example from 1950 to today has today 400% of the yield as 1950, same in India and Pakistan. US wheat yields TRIPLED between 1961 and 2012 (from 14.5 bu per acre to 45 bu per acre).

Quote:
In 1961, when the South Dakota Wheat Commission was established by farmers, wheat yields were 14.5 bushels per acre. SD produced 33.5 million bushels on 2.3 million harvested acres. In 2012, SD Wheat farmers produced three times as much wheat on essentially the same acres (2.2 million harvested acres at 45.8 bushels per acre).

And here is the challange for the NEXT 40 years

Quote:
It is estimated that the world population will increase from a current 7 billion people to 9 billion in the 2050. To match population growth The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that global food production will need to double between now and 2050 to feed the world.

Dude your all over the map with this conspiracy theory and "evil" stuff. It would be really interesting if you wrote it all down briefly in 100 words or less.

Arron, you are right, this is the case in most of the time in larger more industrious nations. However, in third world countires governments steal so much from their people and hoard resources to themselves that people are so intensely poor and cannot afford food.

Well reasoned, Bill. There is an excellent book written about this that you might like: The Rational Optimist by Matt Ridley

Quote:

For two hundred years the pessimists have dominated public discourse, insisting that things will soon be getting much worse. But in fact, life is getting better—and at an accelerating rate. Food availability, income, and life span are up; disease, child mortality, and violence are down all across the globe. Africa is following Asia out of poverty; the Internet, the mobile phone, and container shipping are enriching people's lives as never before.

In his bold and bracing exploration into how human culture evolves positively through exchange and specialization, bestselling author Matt Ridley does more than describe how things are getting better. He explains why. An astute, refreshing, and revelatory work that covers the entire sweep of human history—from the Stone Age to the Internet—The Rational Optimist will change your way of thinking about the world for the better.

The phenomenon of some women losing ground appears to have begun in the late 1980s, though studies have begun to spotlight it only in the last few years.

Researchers also don't know exactly how many women are affected. Montez says a good estimate is roughly 12 percent.

The study, released Monday by the journal Health Affairs, found declining life expectancy for women in about 43 percent of the nation's counties.

Again, life expectancy is being held up by the baby boomers.

Wow! citing a mainstream study quoted in a published article from a reputable news source (i.e. not a conspiracy theory only website)? I think we are moving in the right direction ...

Remember those "four out of five dentists recommend Crest toothpaste" commercials? The study was done at Ohio State University. Proctor and Gamble made a big donation (30 million dollars) to OSU and the study was made with the condition that four out of five dentists involved in the study would say exactly what they did. How do I know this? I, personally, know one of those dentists. He taught in their dental school.

"Monsanto Protection Act" would allow GMO products to bypass the USDA before planting.
