I did just read something about this from some RKI, those are surplus. So that is a bit different, if it was a matter of giving them to LE departments (and DHS) that want them, or scrapping them, it is a far different issue than ordering up new ones. Hell I'd take one for FREE :-).

The MRAPs were not built for DHS. They were builtfor the US Army and Marine Corps. When they took those huge trucks over to Afghanistan, they found them to be too large to maneuver in villages and other confined areas, so they designed a newer smaller vehicle called the MATV and built a bunch of those. THE MRAPS were surplusses and handed out to police forces all throughout the US.

Seems excessive, 15tons? 50cal resistance windows.

when do they get the retired M1 tanks and M2 apc's

I mean if it's surplus why not.

It's ok though- a true Minuteman will just wait until the occupants have to pee.

interesting article.
The topic was briefly discussed a while back (on another board I think)
Someone mentioned similar vehicles being disabled by the IRA using paint to cover the windows and cameras.
and then attacking it with some sort of incendiary, I believe termite.

The vehicles have GPS so it's possible they could navigate at least somewhat reasonably by that.
Although they would run into a lot of things I doubt much short of a semi would phase it.

I can tell you from driving one and using one overseas, the GPS used in them would not help. Lol It's biggest issue is its weight, any soft ground and the MRAP will bottom out.
