Do you curse like a sailor?

Post by YakPac » Thu May 23, 2013 6:31 pm

There must be a whole lot of sailors in this state.
According to research conducted by Marchex, Ohio leads the nation in nonstop swearing — inhabitants drop bombs of various letters every 150 words.

Every 150 words? That average seems a little low at the place I work.

I was always looked down as a hick since I moved here from WV, learned early non that using that kind of language just helped that stereotype and weened myself off of it.

I'm sorry, when the Navy stationed me here in Wright Patt as an instructor in 2007, in caused the whole OH swearing average to go up several percentage points ...

(the hardest part of that assignment was curbing my language in front of students, as it hurt the USAF's feelings ...)

I learned most of my cusswords from truck drivers who'd show up at the former day job, back when I was working in Shipping.

The Head Shipper, who was the fastest two-finger typist I've ever seen, still preferred making me do it. No A/C in the Shipping Office, but at least a nice big fan.

I don't think it's the end of the world, but I try to keep my language consistent with those around me. Sometimes it doesn't work....

(The censor-bot over on M1911.ORG is set for "European English". It really didn't like "screw up". The owner won't change it.... Sometimes you get bit by local standards....)

Stu

I'm a USN vet and my 21 year old daughter can make me blush sometimes, lol. And she didn't learn it from me anyway. Never did care for that expression, along with "spends money like a drunken sailor" since a drunken sailor has to quit spending when he runs out of money.

%$^#, I'm a former %#^&$%@ sailor! I'm @#$^&@ offended by that statement.
I eat meat, smoke cigars, drink bourbon, and shoot guns. Not necessarily in that order. JR Terriers are big dogs in little bodies.

The cocksuker who coined that damn phrase obviously never met a flippin' grunt :)

In all seriousness, it's a tough habit to break. I'm 10+ years out, college educated etc and still slip from time to time.

My wife drops the F bomb occasionally, I never do. I am also Old Navy, emphasis on old.

Allen:

You'll thus appreciate this....

Becka was on a flight from DFW to PIT or CLE, and ended up seated beside two little hellions who basically didn't stop bouncing for the whole flight.

When they arrived, their parents, who'd been seated behind them, and trying to control things a bit, apologized profusely.

Becka's response: "I'm a nurse in a pediatric ER. You'd be surprised what I can ignore."

It's been almost a year since she left that job. The Hospital staff are still celebrating.... (She just got another job in Columbus. I'm not going anywhere near there....)

All the time. Especially since Obama has been in office. I did not as much before his halfway point.

When he comes on Tv my wife cant believe some of the language that I use.
