FS: Harbor Freight Drywall/Panel hoist - $200
(HF price - $299, I paid $279, it's on sale now for $249 + shipping)

I used this to slap a ton of drywall up on my basement walls and ceilings; it works well. It might have a scratch or two in the red paint, but there's no rust to be seen anywhere, and no damage to the lifting mechanism or cable. If you're trying to do a few walls without help, this'll make it possible. If you're going to take more than a day to complete your job, buy this, then re-sell it later. It'll still be a lot cheaper than renting something from Homeless Depot or Blowes. :)

It's heavy enough to make it problematic to ship, so it'll be FTF only.

Here's a stock picture:

The hoist breaks down into three pieces so you easily can stash it in a mid-size car trunk.

I do! It's neatly stashed in the garage. :)

Interested?

Yes. But I have a couple of questions:
I assume it will go to at least 8" high but how LOW will it hold a flat sheet?
I can't tell from the picture; how is the sheet raised? Hydraulic? Chain? Cable? Gear?
Is there a posted maximum weight capacity?
Bob

I'll take 'em in order:

- I'm not sure how low it'll hold a flat sheet, but I'll re-assemble it and check by this afternoon. My best guess is that it'll hold a sheet flat & parallel to the ceiling at about 4.5 feet above the floor, and flat and parallel to the wall at about 2.5 feet above the floor. I will double-check those numbers...

- The hoisting mechanism uses a simple cable reel with an automatic friction brake. It works and has more than enough leverage to accomplish the task easily.

- The manufacturer rates the max. weight capacity at 150 pounds. My guess is that this rating could be greatly exceeded if the extendable support arms weren't extended. (Of course, you'd be doing something other than hoisting drywall if you didn't extend the arms.)

You didn't ask, but max. height (sheet parallel to the ceiling) is about 11 feet. The hoist base is very stable, and never felt in any danger of tipping, even while I was rolling it with heavy sheets on it.

James: Thank you for all your time and trouble but it does not look like it will work for my intended purpose. You probably guessed from my questions that I wasn't planning on using it to hang drywall.
I need something to assist in putting wings back on a high-wing airplane. Something to hold them up about 5 ft high and level while they are slid into place. The lift and height of this hoist is good but the wings are 160-170 lb. each and I would have to add plywood to the lift first so as to not damage the wing and/or paint so we are talking about a 180 lb. load or more.
I'm just gonna have to get 4 strong guys together to do this, I guess, and buy the beer for after...
Thanks!
Bob

:)

Bob, I think this might work:

It has a lift range of 45" - 70-3/4" and handles 1100 pounds. Sure looks like you could easily bolt some 2x4s and plywood to those arms... cost is only $199 from China Freight.

Thanks for the tip, James. Looks like that could do it. Where is China Freight? I've never heard of them. Is that a Harbor Freight (which gets 110% of their stuff from China) joke?

Yeah, it's Harbor Freight - the picture above is a clickable link to their website.
