Illinois FOID card system for buying guns and ammo is broken, state audit finds

For more than four decades, Illinois' Firearm Owners Identification card has been viewed as a first line of defense for protecting the public by trying to keep guns out of the hands of the most dangerous in society.

But a first-ever state audit of the program has found the safety net weakened by bureaucratic loopholes and erroneous and incomplete data that could allow the seriously mental ill and others to keep or get a FOID card to buy firearms and ammunition.

Dan:

Not a bad article, but pretty much a hit piece against Concealed Carry....

"If the FOID system is so screwed up, how can we trust a CHL system?"

OH doesn't require that voluntary mental health care be reported as a stop on a CHL. Suggesting that it should be included is just a good way to keep people from getting help for issues that might be minor, but get worse without treatment.

Yet another "well, so-and-so in CA shot a sheep, so Dan & Stu in OH can't have licenses".... :(

Regards,

You cant. Ask the sheriff when the last time they actually verified a NRA instructor number, slim to none and only if there is something highly suspicious.

Ask me how many times I have been called to verify a certificate .... ZERO!

Ive had to notify over a dozen times, I have never been asked to show my CHL.

Heck, ask yourself when the last time the sheriff or attorney general checked out instructor's classes? We all know there are instructors out there doing less than 12 hours that are just certificate mills.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKE AND WILL ALWAYS BE UNTIL WE GET NATIONAL CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY!!!!

Well, Illinois is broken thanks to Chicago, but I digress.

No licensing or registration scheme has ever been proven to have prevented or solved a crime. The Canadians admitted that when they scrapped the long gun registry. Criminals will do whatever they want BECAUSE they are criminals. Only the law abiding suffer under the rules. I hope I live long enough for that one simple notion to sink into the minds of politicians.

WARNING! driver carries more than $20 in ammunition.

Due to the rising cost of ammunition, I will no longer be able to provide a warning shot. Thanks for your understanding.

I hope you are immortal because it will be a very long time.
Because it is common sense and politicians seem to weed anyone out with that early on.
