The Ohio House of Representatives voted to concur on House Bill 234 by a 69
to 16 vote after it passed in the state Senate by a 24 to 6 vote on Tuesday.

Ohio citizens will be permitted to buy a long gun in any state. Currently
Ohio citizens may only buy long guns from five contiguous states.

Under the new law, Can I be in another state and buy a long gun from an individual and bring it back
to Ohio, or do I need to go through a FFL dealer?

Welcome Aboard!

There's a sticky at http://forums.buckeyefirearms.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10097 that you should have a look at, but it's not mandatory, and may be sleep inducing, or worse....

Otherwise, Enjoy!

I hadn't heard about that long gun thing, but somebody will likely be along shortly with some information. I thought it was a Federal issue forbidding long gun purchases outside of contiguous states (presuming an FFL would make the sale), but never got interested.

We can buy a long gun or handgun by "mail", but the whole thing has to be handled by an FFL at both ends. But FTF, I'm not sure about.

Regards,

Stu

I didn't see anything in the bill as passed that would allow that, but I certainly could have missed it if it wasn't obvious.

No, you would still only be able to buy from FFL holders when in those other states. No person-to-person sales across state lines without the services of an FFL.

I believe that some states still have laws prohibiting long gun sales to residents of non-continguous states, so it would depend on the particular state you want to buy in.

When is Governor scheduled to sign the law and when does it become effective?

Hopefully this week and then it becomes law 90 days after that.

Governor Kasich has 10 days to sign this bill, veto the bill, or just allow it to become law without his signature. Is that 10 business days (meaning the 24th of December) or is it 10 calendar days, meaning the 20th of December (Saturday)?

Pretty sure he's signing a bunch of pending bills today. Those are always good dog-and-pony shows for the politicos and their backers to bask in a bit of media spotlight. Plus, they give out some of the pens used, as souvenirs.

The Bill was signed this afternoon and BFA and NRA were present to witness the signing. Watch BFA's website for the actual day it will go in to effect. Once bills are signed by the governor, they go to the Sec. of State to make sure everything is in order. Once the SoS approves it, the clock to 90 days starts. We'll put it on the website as soon as we determine what that date is.

Sweet! Thanks Linda. I have a co-worker who lives in Pa who has to disarm when she occasionally drives in to my office in central Ohio. She's totally stoked that she'll be able to carry here too. Me? I'm heading out to get a hunting suppressor soon. ;-) Good work!

Too bad we're restricted to straight walled cartridges. I have a Remington 700 SPS in 300 AAC Blackout and a YHM suppressor. I hunt in Western PA where this is legal. I can hunt in my stand with my son without worrying about blowing out either of our eardrums or driving off the deer.

I guess I'll have to break down (sigh) and either buy another rifle or that Silencerco shotgun suppressor for my 870
