Post subject: BFA President to be Guest Speaker at Akron Ward 10 Meeting

Buckeye Firearms Association President Jim Irvine will be the guest speaker at an upcoming City Council Ward meeting in Akron.

From what I understand, Akron's City Councilman for the 10th Ward, Garry Moneypenny, wanted a qualified speaker to participate in a Q&A regarding Ohio's "Concealed Carry" laws at one of his monthly meetings for residents of his Ward.

For those not aware of Akron's configuration, the City is divided into 10 separate Wards, each represented by its own Councilmember. In addition, there are also 3 At-Large Councilmembers for the City of Akron.

Moneypenny, a Democrat, is a retired law enforcement officer. At the age of 22, he was the youngest patrol officer in the Springfield (TWP, Ohio) Police Department in 1978. He rose through the ranks, eventually being appointed to the position of police chief by the Township's Board of Trustees in 2006. Moneypenny also spent time in the Summit County Sheriff Department prior to his retirement.

Councilman Moneypenny's Ward Meetings attract anywhere from dozens to hundreds of attendees, depending on the subject matter. One can only imagine that a meeting where citizens can hear from a 2nd Amendment advocate will be very well attended.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 12th at 6 PM.

The meeting's regular location is:

Akron-Summit County Public Library
Goodyear Branch Location
60 Goodyear Blvd
Akron, Ohio 44305

It is great to see elected officials bringing in representatives such as the President of the Buckeye Firearms Association to be guest speakers at these kinds of public events.

I'm sure Jim Irvine will do us proud!

In case you're wondering, here's the Akron Ward map for 2014:

And specifically the 2014 Ward 10 map:
