In the Matches the ORPA sponser?

If People do their best what else is there?

Then said he unto them, But now, He that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garmet, and buy one

We run and help run many different kinds of matches. For Highpower Rifle, there are two main categories of rifle, Service Rifle and Match Rifle. Service Rifle includes rifles which are either one of the following or civilian versions of the following: M1 Garand, M14, and M16. They must be in the proper chambering: .30-'06 or .308 Win for the M1, .308 Win for the M14 and clones, and .223 Rem for the M16 and clones. With the development of heavier bullets for the .223 Rem, the M16 and clones now dominate the highest level of Service Rifle, but folks still shoot the others. If you want to become a Distinguished Rifleman, sponsored by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (, you must shoot the Service Rifle. A Match Rifle is simply any rifle that conforms to Highpower rules that is not a Service Rifle.

Most Highpower Matches are either "across-the-course" or long range. Full-distance across-the-course matches are at 200, 300, and 600 yards, and they incorporate standing, sitting or kneeling, and prone positions. Long-range matches are from 600 to 1000 yards and are shot from the prone position. I've left out some details here, but that's the general idea. Here's some more information.

For rifles, we also have Smallbore matches and Air Rifle. Smallbore is .22 rimfire. You can get more information on ORPA matches at My contact information and that for the various discipline directors are also there. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
