Trying to locate a 16" Mid-Length 1:8 twist barrel in 5.56 for a build i am planning.

I have found a few just don't know what to really look for or who to buy them from as this is my first AR and my first build.

Thanks.

1/8 twist you better plan on using at a minimum 69 grain bullets it prefer heaver ones with that twist ....

1/9 or 1/7 would be better for plinking or mil spec ball ammo

We can rebuild him, we can make him stronger, we can make him faster, we can make him politically correct..NOT !!!

Ok so a 1:9 twist rate... What is a good place to look? I've looked at PSA and del-ton... mainly looking for a complete barrel with the F marked front sight.

I doubt you'll find much in the way of 1:9 with BCM.

I'd go 1:7 and have the ability to shoot 55gr all the way up to MK262 (77gr).

BCM, Noveske, Centurion, Daniel Defense, etc. all have great barrel options depending on what you want (accuracy, longevity, budget, etc.) I've been very happy with BCM, Colt, DD, and FN for 'service' barrels (chrome lined or double CL) and have seen 3-4MOA accuracy with good ammo. Noveske and Centurion's offerings are much more expensive ($4-550 per barrel) but are in the 1MOA accuracy range with stainless and 1-2MOA with CHF, chrome lined.

If you REALLY want to go 1:8 check out Black Hole Weaponry

They have Polygonal rifling and offer lots of custom fluting at reasonable prices for what you get.

Rich,

Please enlighten me b/c I'm confused by your statement. If 1:8 wouldn't be good for plinking why would a faster rate of 1:7 be ok for that?

I'm familiar with the basics of how the speed of the twist influences the stability given to the projectile and how a faster twist is required to stabilize a longer (and heavier generally) bullet but is 1:8 just something different? or? I also know that my 1:7 twists can potentially blow the jacket off some of the sub 55 grain varmint bullets where the 1:9 or 1:12 twists are better suited to those little bullets.
