Post subject:  Outdoor ranges near Columbus

We purchased a M&P15 Sport this year. This is our first rifle, so we aren't sure where the outdoor ranges are. I have seen that the State runs a few ranges, but can't find much else online. What other outdoor ranges are near the Columbus area? Also, any suggestions for what we need to shoot outdoors? We have only added a Leupold scope thus far.

We are only doing this for fun - once or twice a month trip to the range to shoot for an hour. Thus far, we have only used it at an indoor range.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

There's a sticky at http://forums.buckeyefirearms.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10097 that you should have a look at, but it's not mandatory. Might be sleep-inducing, too. Just some idea of who's here and how things work. No need to go past the first couple pages.

We have a pile of members in the Columbus area, and somebody should jump in shortly with range information. I'm up in Youngstown, which is probably 175 miles too far away for you. The only firearms-related place in Columbus that I know about seems to have evaporated - it was a few blocks from my little sister's place.

Regards,

Do a web search for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (AKA DNR).

Several of Ohio's state parks near Columbus have outdoor ranges.

It's not Columbus but north in Ashland. It's an hour drive for me to get there but the kids and I like it. It's two ranges, short range and long range. It's clean and the old lady takes care of it. Valley View Range. 1040 Twp Rd 553. It's $5/hr per person. Honor system.

The few times there were other people there, everyone was polite, safe and cleaned up after themselves. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures. I haven't used the long range side yet (nothing built yet for long range)

To their left is more tables under a shelter. Even though my kids are using a suppressor, they have ears on because other people are shooting.
