Latest sheath creation.

Post by Viking » Sun Aug 28, 2011 7:49 pm

Story behind the knife: I bought this back when I was 16 near Mesa Verde on a camping trip from an indian. - I recently 'found' it in my parents basement while cleaning out some old things. It had a crappy vinyl & cardboard sheath so I made a new one. I am probably going to pull the blade and heat-treat it, and re-epoxy it back in the handle.

Thanks!

...just a hobby for now (Part of the reason I like buying guns & knives is to make the holsters & sheaths...lol) I make leather belts, sheaths & holsters as gifts for my close friends and relatives mostly.

The next thing I'd like to try is making a knife from a Kit or blade blank ...

If your ever interested in selling any I would be happy to put them on my site. If this is any indication of the quality you make, Im sure you will sell quite a few.

Thanks guys!

No, I don't plan on selling commercially in the immediate future, as I need a few more years to perfect my craft...and it takes me too long to do a project to be make profitable use of my time (economies of scale, and all that...) When my kids move out, (a long time from know...youngest is 1.5) and I have some more 'spare' time, I will entertain the idea of selling leather goods commercially. I have a hard enough time keeping up with "gift orders" from male relatives as it is...(I have made so many belts, I have yet to make one for me or the missus...)

Dan,

I haven't made a leather mag holder yet (I usually just buy the cheap uncle mike's kydex ones...)...but that sounds like a good future challenge! If I make one, I'll post it on the forum for critique...

PM me ...I could probably make a 2 mag holder, as an experiment...3 mag might be a little stiff/wide for practical uses. G 27 mags

I have been thinking about making a leather sheath for my eleven-inch bladed Bowie. I have a leather sheath for my Buck 119 "Classic" and a WWII Kabar with leather sheath, too. I also have a Swedish hunting knife that has been in my father's family since the 19th century and it has a leather sheath.
