COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Central Ohio authorities are offering a reward after a man robbed the same business three times within a month.

The robberies occurred at the Thornton gas station near Gender and Refugee roads, NBC 4's Mike Jackson reported.

The first robbery occurred on Aug. 18 shortly after 1 a.m.
"On two occasions, he actually robbed this same clerk. The clerk recognized him for a previous robbery and here he comes to rob the man again," said Det. Gerald Milner, of Columbus police.

Then on Sept. 5, shortly before midnight, and again on Sept. 20 before 4 a.m., the man showed a gun and threatened to kill the employee unless he got the cash.

"He may live in that general area and … with the economy the way it is, people are desperate and … people do things they normally would not do," Milner said.

The man is described as a black man with a dark complexion and in his late 30s or early 40s with a large frame. He is approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 230 pounds with short black hair, a short beard and mustache.

During each robbery, he was wearing a dark baseball cap.

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest and/or conviction in the fatal shooting. Information must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 15, and lead to the arrest/or indictment of the persons responsible for this crime.

Anyone with information was asked to call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS or leave a tip via the Web site at You also can text a tip to "CRIMES" 274637 and keyword TIP125.

All tipsters can remain anonymous.
