Elderly Man Could Be Blind After Assault

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An elderly man was beaten Sunday, and police said he could be blind after the assault.

NBC 4 reported CPD asked for your help to find the suspect(s).

Victim Herbert Handt already was blind in one eye, but he might have lost sight in his good eye after an attack on the city's East Side, police said.

Handt told police he was walking along Elaine Road Sunday afternoon when he saw a group of people across the street talking and turned the other way.

Handt said a man ran across the street, grabbed him and punched him several times.

The assault caused extensive damage to Handt's working eye, police said.

Anyone with information on the crime was asked to call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS or e-mail at www.stopcrime.org. You also can text a tip to “CRIMES” 274637 with a keyword of TIP125.
