CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man is charged in a deadly accidental shooting of his uncle at the uncle’s 25th birthday party.

Arnold Ragland, 22, is charged with reckless homicide, a third-degree felony. Police arrested Ragland shortly after the shooting. He posted 10 percent of a $25,000 bond set Wednesday at his first court appearance.

Ragland’s uncle, Emeir Ragland, died in the shooting.

The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Emeir Ragland’s home on Benwood Avenue between East 131st and East 136th streets in the city’s Union-Miles neighborhood.

Aaron Ragland believed a handgun he was holding was not loaded and accidentally fired a shot, hitting his uncle in the chest, according to police.

Emeir Ragland was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Arnold Ragland owned a general contracting company, AR Contracting, according to Ohio Secretary of State filings. He started the company in 2017, the filings say.
