  • City of Oberlin Parks Open Carry Education Event, 7&15 Sep

It is my and my wife's intention to spend a large portion of the day in Oberlin (particularly Parks) on Saturday, September 7th AND Sunday, September 15th. The reasoning for the walk on the 15th is that the third reading of the City's change to the unlawful ban on firearms in City of Oberlin Parks. I would invite any and all to join us at Park Street Park at 11:00 on each day. My thinking is we can hang out in the park, lawfully open carrying, but we can also have groups walk down to Spring Street Park (less than 1/2 mile south) and/or into the downtown area, obviously avoiding Tappan Square. Actually, I don't KNOW that Tappan Square is off limits... I never saw any signs to that effect, so until someone in authority tells me, I must assume that an non-posted area is okay! 8-)

I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Also, once I get a few RSVPs, I will send a personal letter to area news outlets. I would appreciate it, if BFA sees fit, that they might send out a release as well.

    Clarification:

    Start Time: 11:00 AM
Place: Park Street Park (across the street to the east from City Hall and the Police Department)
End Time: 2:00 PM or later...

We are bringing our little ones, and will probably be bringing snack food and/or a picnic lunch for ourselves... the goal is to show that lawful carry of firearms in the Parks is NOT dangerous to the community and to show help educate members of the community about the legality of Open Carry and the the requirements of Concealed Carry.

Here's a few seconds of audio from the 9/7 get-together. I just had a big smile on my face and never actually got around to my point.

The event was posted to Channel 19 Action News' facebook page

I couldn't sleep and was up at 0400 today so I ended up reading the, nearly 300, comments and actually made one comment.

Someone made a comment about guns in bars (I have to assume the poster is in or from some heavily gun controlled state) being illegal, so I had to post this link:
…And then there were three: only 3 states now prohibit restaurant carry

fox news front page... how can we leverage this NOW, before the fickle media trays off to something else?

Folks, this has been picked up by FoxNews.com and there is another meet-up on 9/15.

I would love to make this event larger than our turnout at Arch Park on 8/30

Please post if you are willing to attend if you can find someone to carpool with.

And, of course, if you are willing to drive some riders to Oberlin, please post as well.

This Oberlin event is being heavily discussed over on OFCC. You may be able to find a ride or riders over there, as well.

This is an open carry walk, but open carry is not required.

We don't even need you to be armed at this event, we just need you to be at this event.

Every CHL holder out there probably knows many people that do not have a CHL and may not even own a gun, but is still curious about why you want to carry a firearm.

Invite that person. Invite that person's family. There should be plenty of people for them to talk to and plenty of pro/anti conversations for them to listen to.

By the way, whatever happened at the Oberlin Town Council meeting a year ago? Did they repeal their ordinance about no guns in city parks, or is BFA taking them to court for failing to do so? A prompt response would be greatly appreciated.
