Few people familiar with Walter Mitty know that he had a twin brother named Hugh, who was just as smooth-tongued, brash, and outspoken as Walter was shy and introspective. Hugh fancied himself an inventor; one of his inventions was a specially designed golf tee which he claimed would take at least eight strokes off a player's game.
Hugh talked the local golf pro, an aging former US Open competitor, into trying out his tee one hot July day. When the pro's drives repeatedly fell short, onlookers wondered aloud whether the heat was too much for the old pro.
He looked at them and replied, "It's not the heat, it's the Hugh Mitty tee."
